CUSTOMER CARE AND MAINTENANCE

Dear Homeowner,
Congratulations, you now own the highest quality custom cabinets manufactured and offered in the Northern Illinois area. Brakur Custom Cabinetry, Inc. are pleased to serve you and your builder.

Now that you have moved into your new home, Brakur will continue to serve your needs. A copy of Brakur’s limited warranty is on this website. This warranty covers your cabinets for one year from the date of delivery. Should you require service during this period, we request that you coordinate this through your builder. All service activity covered under the warranty will be at no charge. Service not covered under the warranty and will be billed at current rates for time and material.

Also on this website is a set of instructions for adjusting your cabinet door hinges. Normal daily “wear and tear” will eventually result in the need to adjust doors for proper alignment. This is not a warranty item after the initial service call. However, door adjustments are made quite simple when the instructions are followed.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE OF CABINETRY

  • Standard Finish
    • Clean the cabinetry as needed with a lint-free cloth dampened with mild soap and water. Dry thoroughly and immediately.
    • Occasionally clean with either “FLAXSOAP®”, MURPHY’S OIL SOAP®” OR CABINET MAGIC®.” Simply follow the directions of the respective manufacturer.
    • DO NOT USE SUCH PRODUCTS AS “Old English”, “Pledge”, “Endust,” or any wax products. The wax used in these products has a chemical reaction to the finish on the cabinetry, making it impossible to repair or touch up.
  • “Dull Rub/Hand Rub” Finish
    • Clean the cabinetry as needed with a lint-free cloth dampened with mild soap and water. Dry thoroughly and immediately.
    • If further cleaning is necessary, use only ¼ cup vinegar to one (1) gallon of water with a lint-free cloth. Dry thoroughly and immediately.
    • Do NOT use “FLAXSOAP®”, MURPHY’S OIL SOAP®” OR CABINET MAGIC® on the dull rub/hand rub finish. These and other products will shine the appearance of the dull (hand) rub surfaces, resulting in sheen on the cabinetry instead of the dull appearance.
  • Painted cabinetry
Clean the cabinetry as needed with a lint-free cloth dampened with mild soap and water. Dry thoroughly and immediately.
  • General Cleaning Notes
Make sure to wipe dry any spills, splashes, or dripping as they occur, always keep the surface of your cabinetry dry.

Do not use any abrasive towels, rags, or powdered cleaners as these may scratch or penetrate the surface, thus allowing moisture to penetrate and deteriorate the finish.

Do not use a dishcloth to clean or dry cabinet exteriors. It may contain remnants of detergents and grease.

Do not use harsh detergents, strong soap, abrasive cleaners, or self-polishing waxes. All of these items can remove the cabinets’ factory-applied finish.

  • “GRANITE COUNTERTOPS”
    • Very important: Granite is susceptible to staining. Please use all the care to prevent this from occurring.
    • 1ST Time Cleaning: Spray with the clear Windex® window cleaner and let sit for 2-3 minutes and then wipe dry.
For substances that are on the stone (paint, caulk, stain, etc.) use Acetone (nail polish remover) on a clean white cloth and rub off.
    • Daily Cleaning: Use clean water and liquid Ivory® soap mixed in a light solution, or clean with water only and dry with a cloth.
    • Stubborn Stains: Mix white flour with 50% mineral spirits and 50%Ivory soap make paste and apply to stain ½”thick. Cover with plastic wrap and let dry. Scrape off mixture with plastic putty knife. This process may have to be repeated two times for deep stains. Make sure to re-seal your granite after this process. NOTE: ALWAYS TRY IN AN INCONSPICUOUS AREA FIRST.
    • Sealing your Counter: Your counters are sealed at the factory. They do not need re-sealing for approximately one full year after installation. It is recommended that you use S-34 Stone Sealer or a stone impregnator to re-seal your counters after one year and once a year thereafter. This stone sealer can be purchased at most tile stores.
